The academy accepts children between the ages of 6 and 14, believing that every child has their place on the team – regardless of pace, character or talent

Here, children don’t just train. They grow. They learn to believe, to fight, and to be part of something bigger than themselves.

In an era where screens often replace movement, the Handball Academy “Aladzhov” – Plovdiv offers something rare and genuine – a space where sport educates, unites, and inspires. Here, every ball, every smile, and every workout has meaning. The academy accepts children between the ages of 6 and 14, believing that every child has their place on the team – regardless of pace, character, or talent.

More than sport – a path to character

At the Aladzhov Academy, handball begins as a game, but gradually becomes a path to self-discipline and development. Training builds not only technique and physique, but also the soul – children learn to be responsible, to respect their teammates and to believe in the power of perseverance. And for those who show dedication and enthusiasm, competitions come – the real lessons in sportsmanship and character.

A methodology born from experience

The academy’s head coach is a man with many years of experience – a career that began and ended with the Bulgarian national team. This experience sets the standard on which the school’s methodology is built. Although the academy has only been around for three years, its foundations were laid back in 1981 – a tradition modernized through an innovative coaching manual and training cards that allow tracking the workload and individual progress of each child.

A 10-level development system – the path to your own star

Inspired by martial arts, the academy introduces a unique hierarchy of ten levels. Each child progresses through clearly defined levels, covering standards that are also assessed by external experts.

The stars that the children wear on their jerseys are not just distinctions – they are a symbol of personal progress, achieved with hard work, perseverance and heart. Here the competition is not between children, but with oneself.

Parents in the game – family on the field

One of the most beautiful traditions at the Academy is the active participation of parents. They do not stay behind the fence, but enter the game - literally. Last year, the friendly match "parents vs. children" became a true celebration of sports and community.

Interest is growing – this year the initiative will have two editions. Thus, the Aladzhov Academy is not just a sports club, but a close-knit family in which emotions, victories and laughter are shared.

The doors are open to everyone

New participants can try the atmosphere completely free of charge – three introductory training sessions.

With over 95% attendance, the Academy proves that children come not because they “have to”, but because they want to – because sport here is a joy, not an obligation.

Sport, innovation and imagination

In partnership with the Center for Creative Learning, a major partner of LEGO® Education for Bulgaria, the children from the Academy held a thematic workshop under the FIRST® LEGO® League program, UNEARTHED season. This is an annual global educational program that introduces children and youth aged 4 to 16 to the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through fun and hands-on learning.

Participants immersed themselves in the world of robotics and archaeology, putting their skills, dexterity, and precision acquired through sports to work. During the workshop, they skillfully tackled the challenges of assembling structures with LEGO® elements and exploring past civilizations with discovered artifacts.

The children worked in teams, constructed various structures used in the past and programmed their movement according to a time map. In the spirit of team play, the older students helped the younger ones and a creative atmosphere reigned. The children coped with the tasks set and were satisfied with themselves.

All this is proof that sport is an essential part of a complex system, combining discipline, motivation and social attachment with creativity, inventiveness, innovative methods and technologies.
