Summer may be over, but seafood is always one of the most popular foods. You don't need to start the car for a trip to Greece to eat delicious squid this season, because we found a place in Plovdiv, where they also prepare it well, and the prices are quite acceptable.

We already have an article about the restaurants around the Rowing Base under the hills, in which we have highlighted several establishments where you can eat after the traditional Sunday walk. However, the truth is that some of them are in the higher price range.

Grebetsa Restaurant is an emblematic place with a 20-year history, which has won many loyal customers over time, who choose it not only because of the delicious food, but also because of the warm attitude and the good welcome. The cuisine is an interesting mix of traditional Bulgarian recipes and selected European dishes, but the chefs rely exclusively on native products for their preparation. There you can eat baby squid with sun-dried tomato and on a canapé of leafy greens, or with lemon espuma. Prices are around BGN 20.

Another option is Mykonos, whose atmosphere is reminiscent of the local Greek psarotavernas, where fish delicacies are prepared with flair, and octopuses, calamari, shrimps, crabs are served in a variety of ways. Most of the raw materials are directly imported from our southern neighbor, and the rest - from local producers. Here, the calamari can be grilled, pan-fried, or deep-fried with mango sauce and sesame seeds. All are perfectly prepared and delicious, but the prices are over BGN 25 per portion.

You can however eat excellently prepared calamari for less than BGN 20 in the area of the Rowing Canal. This is exactly how they will be served to you at the Nettuno restaurant, right at the barrier next to the Lokomotiv tennis courts.

For many years, the Metallica cafe-bistro was housed in this place, but for some time they’ve turned it into a cozy place with a pretty good menu. The service is friendly and the calamari tender and melting in your mouth!
