We have prepared a number of texts with lunch menus and dining suggestions all around the city under the hills, but a price of 8 BGN for a three-course lunch menu has never been seen before. This could probably become one of the most popular locations in the central part of the city, although there are some conditions you should be aware of.
At the beginning of September, news websites shared that the student canteen at 136 "Tsar Boris III Obedinitel" Blvd., near the Rectorate of Plovdiv University, is reopening. This happened at the initiative of the students and the management of the Plovdiv branch of the Technical University. The students themselves actively participated in preparing the space, to have it ready for the new academic year. The building on the central boulevard in Plovdiv is state-owned and has been entrusted to the Technical University branch for management, with the restoration process taking six months.
The working hours of the student canteen "Baikal" are from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays, with the actual serving time being between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. To benefit from the social price of 4 leva, all students receive a sticker with a unique code from their university’s academic departments. This sticker is valid for the entire period of their studies and does not need to be renewed every year. A reader is installed in the canteen, connected to the Ministry of Education and Science's electronic system for student meal control. The number of students using the canteen determines the state subsidy, which covers half the cost of each meal, i.e., 4 leva.
The canteen is also open to anyone who is not a student, but for them, the price is 8 leva for the full menu of three courses.
The team from the "Pod Tepeto" website visited the place last week and managed to taste part of the offered menu, which turned out to be completely sufficient for one to feel full and ready for the second half of the day. Currently, this is the only place in the central part of the city where you can have lunch at such prices, especially after the canteen in the basement of the Faculty of Biology closed during the pandemic.
