Trendy gourmet flavors like pistachio, mascarpone, and cheesecake—there’s nothing wrong with them, and we love indulging, especially when Plovdiv’s temperatures soar past 30°C and the cobblestones underfoot practically burn us. But sometimes… we crave something simpler and different. We long for that taste we associate with childhood, with carefree days and that buttery flavor melting in our mouths.
That’s why today we’re stepping just outside the borders of the City under the Hills and taking you on a quick trip to the village of Pesnopoy, located on the road between Plovdiv and Karlovo. Though the area has a few mineral springs nearby, Pesnopoy wasn’t exactly a popular destination—until they opened the ice cream stand right next to the bus stop. This usually happens shortly after the first warm days—sometime around April or May—and the stand becomes the reason for long queues, especially on weekends.

They make the ice cream with real milk, and the process takes quite a bit of time, but every bite is worth it, because it truly tastes like homemade… happiness! The flavors are few and sell out quickly, but each one is a nostalgic journey back in time—who didn’t love “violet” flavor back in the '90s? And the best part is, the prices are more than reasonable… which often means one cone just isn’t enough!

On site, you can also find refreshing homemade lemonade, coffee, and iced frappé, and the reviews are nothing short of glowing. It’s the perfect stop for a quick break on the road and a cool treat to recharge.
