There is a corner in one of the liveliest locations in the district which has changed owners, name and assortment at least 3 times in recent years

The address is 5 Yoakim Gruev St and the establishment seems to have a perfect location, as it is at the entrance of the district, right on Marukyan Square, better known as Shirokoto. The building is angular and a large part of the people coming from the Little Main Street goes through there.

There is also a suitable space for placing tables for outdoor serving in front and right next to them is where taxis stop in the area in the evening.

However, in recent years we can recall at least three different concepts being tried out at the location, and just days ago we saw that a new sign had already been put up.

Quick Food

One of the district’s earlier establishments before it became primarily a place for culinary tourism and entertainment. Quick Food prepared homemade food with well-chosen spices from the Arab cuisine, and if we wanted something different than Bulgarian fast food, this was the place!

Subsequently, they moved and their new location is at the intersection of Gladstone Street, in close proximity to the House of Culture. The reviews continue to be excellent and it's always an option when you're in the area and want to enjoy something delicious and freshly made. There are both meat products and dishes, as well as a wide selection of salads, vegetarian dishes and appetizers. We guarantee that all fans of oriental cuisine will be delighted.

Smashing Burgers

In the summer of 2021, many of us remember the opening of another burger place in the district. Smashing Burgers was owned by a popular reality TV couple and had another location in the Trakia district. Their menu included both standard offerings and some daily specials, but they lasted about a year, a year and a half.

Berlin Döner Kebap Plovdiv

Another attempt at a fast-food establishment at the site bet on the doner kebab concept. It’s a traditional dish, and its history begins hundreds of years ago. It is found in many places in Turkey and it’s rather accepted as its country of origin (the Anatolian region), although the way it is consumed now is characteristic of Germany.

Until recently, it was home to Sandwiches and Burgers again, even its location is still listed on Google Maps, albeit with the tag temporarily closed:

A few weeks ago, however, we noticed that once again the premises were empty and being prepared for a new venture. At the moment, only a new sign has been put up there, indicating that the fast-food concept will probably be followed again - this time, betting on shawarma and falafel.

The location is certainly one of the most central in the district, but probably the ever-higher rents and the many dining places in Kapana make it a difficult place to develop and one of those that change owners the most!
